Noah Cyrus Apologizes For Comment To Candice Owens

Noah Cyrus says she regrets using a term she used to defend Harry Styles after being schooled on its racist nature.

The “Lonely” singer defended the “Watermelon” singer in an Instagram Story this week against Black conservative commentator Candace Owens, after Owens slammed Styles’ recent Vogue shoot in which he wore a dress. Owens had said the world should “bring back manly men.”M

The 20-year-old Cyrus wrote, “He wears this dress better than any of u nappy a– heauxz,” according to a screenshot published Thursday by TMZ.

Cyrus, the younger sister of pop star Miley Cyrus, posted another Story Thursday, this time apologizing for the remark.

“I am mortified that i used a term without knowing the context and history, but i know now and i am horrified and truly sorry,” the “Make Me” singer wrote. “I will never use it again. thank you for educating me. i in no way meant to offend anyone. i am so so sorry.”

Still, Twitter users were none too pleased with the young singer for her words and in some cases, found it hard to believe Cyrus didn’t have some idea the remark would cause harm.Advertisement

“Just cuz u apologize doesn’t make you not a racist,” tweeted one user.

“I cannot stand what @RealCandaceO represents but racial slurs are not OK coming from anyone & even not directed at CO,” said another. “Fair is fair.”

“She knew exactly what she said, and how it would be perceived…She was probably prepared to ‘apologize’ knowing very well that she would never suffer any consequences,” tweeted another user.

Owens, 31, responded via Twitter to Cyrus’ use of the slur, writing, “Any one of woke liberals care to explain to me how @noahcyrus calling me a ‘nappy a– hoe’ is not racist? I’m all ears. You guys love candle culture. @MileyCyrus come get your sister!”
